Description
When you decide to feed the homeless and not shelter them, they take up residence on your streets. South Broadway is, no exaggeration, littered with a mattress and personal property on S Broadway, at the intersection of Newell as though someone is living without walls. There is no business to claim this as their problem, and I have seen the police out there multiple times. Just further along the road is a giant pile of leaves that has been decaying/composing there for months, obviously abandoned by an unlicensed landscaper/leafblower that did not want to properly dispose. Do you have anyone on this beat? Our neighborhood is deeply concerned.

Thank you for the inquiry.
City crews were working on the southeast corner of Broadway & Newell earlier today. Is the reported mattress at this corner or is it located elsewhere?
The pile of leaves has been reported to Public Works.
Per a 2018 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decision, Martin v Boise, the laws overseeing the rights of transients & their use of the right of way have changed. When the City, or a property owner, performs a clean up; there are required postings that have to be present and time offered for the persons to remove the items themselves. Legally, its not a swift process.
